Short game practice area
New short game practice area (SGPA)

Nestled between the 9th and 10th holes is our new 100-metre long enhanced Short Game Practice Facility. The SPGA officially opened in September 2021 with a permanent canopy covering the main pitching area, plus four short distance pitching mats to try out shots from different angles. The undulating green with various flag positions enables golfers of all ages and capabilities to hone their skills. Three side bunkers of varying depth are strategically placed so that practice in the sand is easily at hand.

This facility is managed via the Pro Shop to ensure that safety is always the priority. Peter Roberts, our Head Professional thinks, “…this is one of the best SGPA facility in SE England, and the four PGA Pros here at Surbiton are delighted that we now have this excellent teaching facility to help our members reduce their handicaps by improving their short game shots.” Members who wish to practice their long game can use the driving range.

The cost of this project was assisted by a grant from England Golf and a very generous Club Lotto donation from our members.
