About our club

Hi there – thanks for your interest in Surbiton Golf Club. Those two words – Golf and Club – drive everything we do.

Golf markAs a result, Surbiton provides a wonderful blend of modern golfing and all the benefits of a Private Members' Club. That’s one of the reasons why we have Golfmark status – a clear indication of our inclusive approach.

With a heritage stretching back to 1895, you’d expect Surbiton to have some history. We’re particularly proud that Ryder Cup-winning Captain Dai Rees learnt his trade as an Assistant at Surbiton and that Sir Sydney Camm, who designed the Hawker Hurricane Fighter – the first RAF aircraft to top 300 mph – was one of our members. The Sir Sydney Camm Trophy is perhaps the most beautiful trophy in our cabinet and is always the subject of intense competition each year.

Competitive and fun golf

The club and course is perfectly set up for people who love playing competitive golf and having fun doing it.

There are literally dozens of opportunities for golfers of all standards to compete. Club competitions are played throughout the year for singles and pairs. The club also competes in a variety of local leagues and has an active series of 'friendly' matches against other clubs.

That’s why we often get over 150 members playing in a Medal, have very active participation from Juniors to Veterans and, why roll-ups are very popular throughout the week. There is also a good number of fun competitions on bank holidays and other special days that may not promise a major trophy but are nonetheless hotly contested.

One of the many highlights of the golfing calendar is the annual ProAm which attracts professionals from across the Region.

Active social life

With or without golf, our friendly bar and catering staff make it easy for people to have fun which is why there’s always a buzz in the bar and why our Quiz Nights have a reserve list for bookings.

There are a wide array of events arranged to cater to all ages and tastes. These include: Sunday lunches; Quiz nights, Bridge evenings, Themed dinners, Skittles, Casino and Race Nights, and a number of Christmas events.

Supporting local charities

The club ‘feel’ also embraces the community - with a very active charity programme that raises significant sums of money every year. Every summer the club hosts a fun day in aid of the Captains’ charities. This combines golf, food and entertainment. It's always fun and raises money for a good cause too.

In 2017/18 the charity we support is:

Diabetes UK

Diabetes UK are the UK’s leading diabetes charity that cares for, connects with and campaigns on behalf of every person affected by or at risk of diabetes. That means that, if you’re living with diabetes, care for someone who does, or are worried about your risk of getting Type 2, we’re here for you.

We provide care, support and information, because we know that diabetes is complicated and can be difficult to manage. We campaign tirelessly for better care and treatment for everyone with diabetes. Our researchers are leading the way in understanding diabetes – how best to treat it, avoid it and cure it.

Imagine being diagnosed with a condition that has no cure and requires careful management every minute of the day, and getting the right treatment depended on where you live. Imagine people didn’t take your condition seriously or thought it was self-inflicted. That’s why Diabetes UK’s work is so important.

With our help, people with diabetes can understand their condition, manage it, and live a full and happy life.

A private members golf club with a difference

The club and course is perfectly set up for people who love playing competitive golf and having fun doing it.

We have a simple philosophy - we want to create the perfect environment for playing competitive golf in a social and inclusive atmosphere on a well presented golf course.

As a result we run our finances to ensure that we make this goal possible. It means we have a long term vision for the club and the course. It is for this reason that we continue to charge an entrance fee. This brings a mutual commitment from the member and the club. The member commits to staying with us and the club commits to investing every year to deliver improvements to members.

If you love playing competitive golf and are looking for a club with a very inclusive culture then pay us a visit and experience the Surbiton difference for yourself.
